JESSICA DEVINE Graduated from Hampshire College in May 2008 with a B.A. and concentrations in languages, education, Latino studies and Dominican American literature. She currently lives in Austin, TX and is working on a project for Sustainable Habitats Incorporating Renewable Education (The S.H.I.R.E.), a non-profit organization that she and some friends started three years ago. The project involves animals, multiple gardens, and improving the land, both by amending the soil for future agricultural endeavors, and constructing buildings using natural building methods and alternative energy. They host workshops and volunteer work days, and will have a farm stand for the spring growing season. They also have a website: www.the-shire.org, which is a collection of blogs and articles on sustainability topics.
