| Hands-on, real-world, experiential learning
applied at an appropriate age. We chose Prairie Hill because of
the people. The learning of foreign languages is so important
and gives children an insight to people beyond our country. We believe that PHWS will help teach our children
to respect the world, others, earth, self and to think. My son’s teacher, Yuletide Faire, the
plays, basketball, the good teachers… Its simplicity–lack of superficial values.
The reverence for the children. We like the loving nurturing atmosphere throughout
the whole school. There is beauty and depth in all aspects of
the child’s day. The teachers understand a child’s development
and teach just what the children are ready for at that stage. I see a genuine love between teachers and their
students. Prairie Hill allows a child to be a child.
Walking down the halls and hearing the children singing– and
just everything else. I think the parent support of the school is
unmatched to any other, and the commitment of our teachers is phenomenal. Waldorf children don’t think out of the
box – they don’t even know that a box exists. The special way that academics is approached
so as to maintain a love of learning and exploration – so
the child doesn’t get burned out and so he develops a creative
curiosity. Prairie Hill provides an environment to nurture
the child’s natural curiosity to explore and learn…and
how we/he can affect the world/his environment in a positive way. I love everything! I love the hands-on approach,
the rhythms, the connection to the earth and the spirit life, the
community involvement, the arts and handwork early language exposure,
single-teacher continuity. …the beauty of the school. It’s like taking a deep cool drink for
a thirsty spirit. They have a great understanding of children’s
developmental phases that meets the needs of the children in a way
not addressed in traditional philosophies. From
an 8-year veteran public school teacher I love what a Waldorf school does socially for
the child, the class and the community. No one is left out. Students
help each other and are taught true love and respect. I love the strong math and science taught in
our curriculum. The reverence and beauty that all subjects are
approached with. Waldorf still emphasizes finding beauty in many
things which I think instills respect for the subjects. The depth
to which they learn each subject penetrates each child deeply and
stays with them. Prairie Hill is truly a school where children
come first. I love that our parent/teacher conferences are
scheduled for one hour…and we still go over. Prairie Hill provides a strong partner
we need to maintain a healthy, wholesome environment in our home.
I finally found a healthy balance for the fast lane.
