| The school curriculum in many areas addresses the need for children
to be physically active during parts of every day. From the early
childhood programs through eighth grade every class teacher incorporates
movement into the curriculum. In addition to focusing the energies
of the children, much is gained in the motor and intellectual skills
areas. A young child is immersed in the world of movement and imitation.
For example, an older student works with movement and his connection
to others in his class in a subject like math to reinforce and internalize
the times tables. Two subject classes in the curriculum focus on movement. One is
a gym and games class that every grade, third through eighth, has
twice a week. The other is eurhythmy classes, a subject class in
Waldorf schools in which music and speech are made visible through
individual and group movement. |
