Prairie Hill Employment Opportunities

Students at Prairie Hill participate in practical work in their classrooms, school and in the community. Every class participates in chores in the classroom and on the school grounds to keep the building and grounds beautiful. In the upper grades community service projects provide them with opportunities to increase their awareness of responsibility to the greater community.

There are many opportunities for students to participate in projects of their own design and creation that reinforce their feeling of confidence in their abilities. In working with their own hands they realize the fruits of their labors and show pride in their craftsmanship. In the handwork curriculum, students begin finger knitting in kindergarten, knit scarves in first grade, mittens in fourth and socks in fifth. Crocheting, cross-stitching and sewing garments on treadle machines expand students’ handwork skills and practical abilities.
