Announcements

Mayfaire Friday May 17, 3:30-6pm

All WaldorfSchools across the land will be acknowledging the turning of the seasons and welcoming the return of Spring by hosting a Mayfaire celebration. Prairie Hill will hold its Mayfaire on Friday, May 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. (with "helping hands" to clean up afterwards). The Grade 2/3 class will offer the traditional Maypole Dance. Watch as they dance to weave Spring-colored ribbons together and you will also see them weave a community together! There will be music, games, tie-dyeing, food and vendors offered for your enjoyment. Take your chances on winning a delicious cake in the fun Cake Walk. Fashion garlands of willow branches and flowers into a Mayfaire Crown, before you enter the Fairy Glen. I wonder what they will leave for us to see?  This event is a great way to come together as a community and celebrate what the good earth brings to our school and us.  If we have a rainy Mayfaire activities will be held in the gym. Note that there will be no parking in the rear parking lot after drop off, as it will be roped off for our Vendors. **Parking will be in the field that day. Please use the front parking lot for pick-up at dismissal time. See you at the Faire!

Saturday May 18,  9-10AM

Amid the onslaught of modern noise, students can be taught to utilize music to create a peaceful inner sanctum, to nurture themselves, and to have healthy leisure interests. Music also can help students delve into various cultures, especially as the music being studied parallels the grade level curriculum. Please join us for presentation and discussion with Class Teacher Maggie Herbst

Class Plays

Drama is an integral part of the Waldorf curriculum in which all children participate.

In the interplay of speech and gesture a story is told and shared with an audience which, through its willing participation, co-create the drama. The audience is moved and transformed as some element of the human experience is explored, e.g. the emotions or the struggle. For the students, drama is not only a transforming, but also a forming force. Through drama the students have the unique and essential opportunity to strengthen who they are and to experience what they are not. Through the years they will have try on many different roles, walk in many different shoes and speak through many different voices. They begin to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the other. As they explore the feelings of others, they learn to express and control their own feelings and learn to acknowledge and control their own behavior.
