Celebrating its 22nd year, Prairie Hill Waldorf School has an enrollment of 197 children, preschool through Grade 8. Our average class size is 20 children per grade. Our popular parent-child Playgroup children serves an additional 40 families with children, ages 18 months to 4 years. Our faculty comprises a solid core of Waldorf-trained teachers. Subject classes offered include two foreign languages, handwork, eurythmy, gym and games, music, and a strings program. We also have a very strong Learning Support department that includes a sensory integration specialist and experienced teachers who have completed Waldorf Remedial Training, an anthroposophical doctor/consultant, and a therapeutic eurythmist. Together, this Tobias Care Group meets weekly and oversees consultant work with sensory integration, curative Eurythmy, speech, OT, and other therapies available in our community.

The school is located just 30 miles west of the metropolitan city of Milwaukee and 45 miles east of the exciting university town of Madison in the beautiful Lake District of Pewaukee and Delafield. The school population encompasses the greater Milwaukee area and is part of a strong and growing anthroposophical community that supports several biodynamic farms and the Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, three Lifeways Centers and one Lifeways Training Center, the Great Lakes Waldorf Teacher training program, anthroposophical medicine and pharmacy, the Rafael Music Foundation, the Emmaus branch of the Anthroposophical Society, regular chapel services of the Christian Community, and more.

In 1995, we purchased our country school building that was originally founded as a one-room schoolhouse in 1864. Fourteen acres of land surround the school including gardens, fields, wetlands and a small woods. In 1999, our Community Hall was built with a sprung wooden floor and skylights to house our extensive drama, eurythmy and sports programs, as well as a monthly community contra dance.

Our school is growing and developing quickly now. Six years ago, a beautiful courtyard was engineered and landscaped by the school community.  Zoned agriculturally, the third grade built an impressive chicken coop and our well-tended chickens provide us daily with fresh eggs.  This past year our active and generous parents helped paint and renovate the school’s interior, including the addition of several wood floors in our classrooms and a new receptionist area. Our Board of Trustees is also actively engaged in addressing the future needs of the school.

We offer a salary and benefit package that includes tuition remission, health insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, retirement, cafeteria plan, and optional dental insurance. We also have additional funding earmarked for teacher professional development and mentoring.

Prairie Hill Waldorf School is an independent, nonsectarian, non-profit school, serving ages 18 months through Grade 8 in an elementary and middle school based on an internationally acclaimed Waldorf curriculum. We are a fully accredited member school of the Association Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA, the State of Wisconsin, and the North Central Association (NCA) Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.
